Grand Dessein: An Art object made by Lillian-Yvonne Bertram
"Grand Dessein" is an artist book commissioned by Container Press for their Multitudes project. The task was to repurpose a Rolodex and some or all of it's 500 cards. "Grand Dessein" consists of 280 "cards": some are portions of photographs, some are upholstery fabric. The majority have been hand-stamped with the artist's original poems, and selections from the diaries of the artist Paul Klee. Portions of Klee's drawings that appear in his diaries have also been included on the cards and interspersed throughout. The hand-and handwritten cards have been coated in melted beeswax.
